Follett Textbook Selection

This article is for faculty who want to select their textbook using Follett. 


1. Enable Follett in Course Navigation

When you are in a course, you will see a list of links in blue typeface. This is your Course Navigation Menu. You and your students will use these links to navigate your course.

If you are in a course but do not see course navigation links, click on the three-line hamburger menu in the upper left of the course. This will display the course navigation links.

Check and see if Follett My Materials is enabled in Course Navigation. If it is, skip to Step _ If it's not, continue below.

1.1. Go to Settings

Scroll down to the Settings link.

1.2. Customize Navigation

The Settings area contains all the settings options for your course.  Click on the Navigation tab.

The links in (1) the top group are available. (2) Follett My Materials is in the bottom group, so it is currently disabled. 

You can enable it by (1) Click on the vertical three-dot menu next to the link that you would like to enable. (2) Then click + Enable.

Now the enabled link will appear in the top group.Drag the links within this top list to create the order you would like. 

Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to keep your navigation changes.

Now Follett My Materials appears in the Course Navigation Links menu.


2. Use Follett to Select Textbook

2.1. Select Follett My Materials from Course Navigation

Depending on how you have ordered your course navigation menu, you may need to scroll down to locate Follet My Materials. 

Once you click on it, the tool will launch in the browser. If it's your first time accessing the tool, you will see tour option that you can start or skip. 

Once you click Skip or go through the tour, you will see your courses listed for the upcoming term. You can use the drop down menu in the upper left to change terms. 

2.2. Choose Your Textbook

To enter missing adoptions, select Open Adoptions, select a Course and click Adopt by Course if all sections have the same material or Adopt by Section if material varies by section: 

If you are not going to use any paid materials, select either Using OER Material or No Materials Required

To search for adopted books using the ISBN, use the box that says 13-digit ISBN underneath the course information. Only enter numbers, no dashes or letters. If your ISBN is not found, select request materials and enter textbook information manually. 

Once adopted, materials are listed inside the course box. 

If your course had previously adopted materials, they will be listed under the course/section. Unselect any material you do not want to keep. Make sure that re-adopted materials are selected and click Adopt Selected Items.
