Weighting the Final Course Grade Based on Assignment Groups

Updated on

This article is for Faculty who want to calculate final grades based on weighted Assignment Groups they set up in the Assignment area in their Canvas courses. Faculty can easily create weighted groups in their Canvas courses based on their course syllabus grade distribution categories. Selecting weighted groups assigns weight to each assignment group, not the assignments themselves. Weighted percentages are calculated per group by dividing the total number of points a student earned by the total points available for all point bearing course content in that group.

1. Organize types of course content in Your Assignments area

The Assignments tab can be found in the Course Navigation Menu to the left in Canvas.
