This article provides faculty with steps to set up and enable Respondus Browser and Monitor for a quiz or exam in Canvas. 1. Add Respondus to Your Course Navigation Menu
Canvas courses may come with the Respondus LockDown Browser option listed in the Course Navigation menu. If you don't see it there, it may be disabled in the course's Navigation settings. If this is the case for you, follow steps 1-4. Jump to step 5 if Respondus is already displayed for you in Global settings.
1.1. Access Your Navigation Settings
Select Settings in the Course Navigation menu at the bottom left.
Click on the Navigation option.
1.2. Make Respondus LockDown Browser visible in the Course Navigation menu.
(1) Drag Respondus from the disabled section below to the enabled, visible list above. Additionally, you can (2) select the three dots to the right of an item and choose Enable to movie it to the top list of viewable links for students.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save.
2. Configure Respondus LockDown Browser Settings for a Quiz in Canvas
2.1. Select the Respondus Lockdown Browser option in your Course Navigation.
The Respondus LockDown Browser tab can be found in the Course Navigation to the left in Canvas.
2.2. Enable Respondus for your selected exam or quiz.
(1) Click the green drop down menu button to the left of the exam you'd like to link. (2) Next, click Settings from the drop down menu.
Choose Require Respondus Lockdown Browser for this exam option.
2.3. (Optional) Add Respondus Monitor
If you are not using the Respondus Monitor option for webcam proctoring, skip to Section 2.4.
If you would like to use the Respondus Monitor option for webcam proctoring, follow the steps below in Section 2.3.
Choose Require Respondus Monitor for this exam option (if proctoring your exam in an online environment).
(1) Read the pop-up, then (2) click Continue.
3. Add Directions for Students
If you use Classic Quizzes, instruct your students to open LockDown Browser before logging into Canvas to take the quiz.
If you use New Quizzes, instructor you students to open a standard browser (for example, Chrome) to log into Canvas and access the quiz. They will be prompted to open LockDown Browser from a popup.
Regardless of quiz type (Classic or New), students will need to have installed the California State University, East Bay version of LockDown Browser to their device before taking a quiz that requires Respondus LockDown Browser.
4. Check Respondus LockDown Browser Student Data
After students have taken a quiz, view and grade their results in Canvas SpeedGrader (read Section 1.1 and 1.2 of this article on Grading Classic Quizzes in Canvas to learn how to access SpeedGrader).
To access Respondus LockDown Browser test-taking data, go to the Respondus LockDown Browser from the Course Navigation Menu.
Find the quiz and select the arrow to its left.
Choose Class Results from the dropdown menu.
Respondus provides basic information about each student's quiz attempts: last name, first name, review priority, date, score, reviewed, and notes.
If Respondus Monitor is enabled, screenshots from the initial webcam check and a webcam video from when a student was taking the quiz will also be available. To access these, select the plus sign next to a student's name.
Select the play arrow to view webcam footage.
